My Story

From $5.25/hr to 6-figure Tech Professional

My name is Jaime Mantilla and I came to the United States from Colombia with my family when I was 17 years old. I had no friends and didn’t speak English, the only thing that motivated me was fulfilling the American dream.

I started working as a janitor for $5.25/hour not keeping one dime of what I made. Everything I earned was given to my parents to provide for our family. It took me around one year to start speaking English comfortably and get everything in place to start getting other jobs to work my way up.

Until I was able to establish myself, I worked a bunch of jobs—from selling knives to making and delivering pizza, as well as delivering auto parts and as a cook in a Mediterranean restaurant. Some of the jobs were normal, as a waiter, and others a little more unusual, such as serving for a nudist colony. Everything was worth the effort of making my dreams come true and provide for my family.

And all the work paid off. Today I am an IT professional who has been working in the area for more than 12+ years. I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems and have a title as Master of Science in Information Technology. In addition to this, I hold several certifications in the area, all of which have enabled me to work for multiple Inc 500 companies from the most varied industries. Some of these include Citibank, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Raymond James Financial, AgileThought, Suddath, Cigna, AT&T, and ALSAC where I worked with software and automation engineering.

Today I am an IT consultant and entrepreneur, happily married, with two kids. I started this blog to share the knowledge and insights I’ve gained throughout my career, combining my experiences in software testing, AI, test automation, and digital entrepreneurship. My goal is to empower aspiring professionals and those looking to transition into tech by providing comprehensive guides and practical advice.
